At Ray studios we use the latest generation of lasers: picosecond lasers!

But what does that actually mean?

A quick bit of background: a laser works by sending out a light wave at very high speed, targeting the pigments in your tattoo. There are several types of laser, and they are classified according to the nature of the active medium, their pumping method, their operating mode and their wavelength.

The lasers used at Ray studios are classified by their operating mode, that is to say the nature of the pumping, and they allow our customers to go through their tattoo removal experience safely, with trained skin therapists and correct laser settings in a controlled environment!

Fact: picosecond lasers are also used in high-precision fields and, above all, in research: in short, these are seriously capable lasers!

A technology with new advantages

Unlike its predecessors, the picosecond laser offers a number of advantages to the customer.

Picosecond lasers operate in pulsed, relaxed or frequency modes. This operating system is determined by the laser's pumping system; in other words, the pulse duration can be extremely short (hence picosecond), with power varying between 100W and 1kW

  • High speed: yes, the picosecond laser has a propagation speed 1,000 times faster than its predecessor, the Q-Switched laser!
  • Fewer sessions: with the picosecond laser, our customers need fewer tattoo removal sessions than with another laser, because the tattoo pigment particles are broken down more quickly. Individual results vary.
  • Colours treated: the picosecond laser can effectively treat the colours in your tattoo as well as all the pigment types in it.
  • A laser suited to all skin types: from light skin to dark skin, the picosecond laser works on all skin colours.
  • Reduced side effects: this laser targets only the tattoo ink pigments, which means the skin around the treated area is preserved. Only some redness may appear on the treated area, and it fades after a few days.

FAQ

What is a picosecond laser and how does it work?

The picosecond laser is a state-of-the-art technology used in tattoo removal, but also in other medical fields such as cosmetic or ophthalmic surgery. It emits an ultra-fast light wave (in picoseconds, a thousand times faster than a Q-Switched laser), which targets the tattoo pigments with extreme precision. This speed makes it possible to break up the ink more effectively, while reducing the impact on the surrounding skin. The result: faster, safer and less painful tattoo removal.

What are the advantages of picosecond laser for tattoo removal?

The picosecond laser offers many advantages for customers:

  • Fewer sessions required: thanks to the speed of the pulse, pigments are broken down more finely and more quickly.
  • Effective on all colours: even resistant inks such as blue, green or fluorescent pigments can be treated.
  • Suitable for all skin types, light and dark.
  • Fewer side effects: heat dissipates quickly, limiting redness, blistering or scarring.

It is now the reference laser for high-precision, well-tolerated tattoo removal. Individual results vary.

Is picosecond laser safe for the skin?

Yes, picosecond laser is one of the safest treatments on the market. Unlike older technologies, it targets only the ink pigments without burning the surrounding skin. Side effects are generally limited to slight redness or a temporary sensation of warmth, which disappears within a few days. This safety makes picosecond laser a trusted choice, even for sensitive areas or dark skin.
